Can we be a real life SANTA?

December, to me is one of the most special months, not only because the festival of Christmas is associated with vacations, excursions, picnic, party, mouth-watering delicacies but also because this is that part of the year when we get an opportunity to extend our warmth and show our philanthropic nature. For  me, Christmas is also associated with visits to old age homes, orphanages or villages with friends and family.
In our extremely busy, hectic, self- centred lives , we must find some time to reflect on the fact that there are some people around us who are not as fortunate as we are. Being a reason for their smile is such a beautiful feeling that no amount of money can ever buy. last Sunday i went to a village, almost 70 km from Garia to a school run by an organisation and met wonderful little children there. They were 24 in number. The teachers and parents were considerate enough to reach school on time, although it was a Sunday. The children wore their school dresses, but did not have shoes or warm clothes. They greeted us with folded hands and sang the National Anthem. All of them were aged between 4-7 years. We served them sweets, cakes, chips etc which they ate together. as they were eating, I could not get my eyes off them. they were like cute angels, serving them was like serving The Almighty. The twinkle in their eyes, the smiles on their faces is a treasure to be cherished forever. Soon those who looked surprised at the series of events taking place around them started smiling as well as we started distributing sweaters, trousers, caps, cookies, creams, note books, pencil boxes, etc. They were now very busy first in looking at what is inside their containers and then to peep into their friends bags. After having few words with the authorities concerned, as I was just about to leave, one of them called me and said, " Didi, Please come again." I just smiled and said that I will. Indeed I am longing to visit the place again. The beautiful faces made me forget my sorrows. What magical power these kids have! Let us all try and make sure poverty does not take their innocence and dreams away.
